Atmospheric neutrino interactions in Soudan - 2 ∗
A new measurement of the atmospheric νµ/νe ratio-of-ratios, 0.61 ± 0.15 ± 0.05, has been obtained using a 3.2-kty exposure of the Soudan-2 underground detector. This measurement, based upon neutrino reactions in an iron tracking calorimeter of honeycomb-lattice geometry, is in agreement with the anomalously low value reported by the underground water detectors.

The LSND experiment at Los Alamos has conducted searches for fiP -+ Z, oscillations using fiwfrom p+ decay at rest and for VP + v~ oscillations using VP from n+ decay in flight. For the DP-+ i7~search, a total excess of 83.3+21.2+ 12.0 events is observed with e+ energy between 20 and 60 MeV, while for the up + ~e search,a total excess of 8.3 + 5.5 & 4.0 events is observed with e– energy between...
متن کاملNeutrino Oscillation Effects in Soudan-2 Upward-stopping Muons
Upward-going stopping muons initiated by atmospheric νμ and νμ interactions in the rock below the Soudan 2 detector have been isolated, together with a companion sample of neutrinoinduced single muons, created within the detector, which travel downwards and exit. The downward-going sample is consistent with the atmospheric-neutrino flux prediction, but the upward-going sample exhibits a sizeabl...

allows a measurement which is independent of an absolute ux or exposure calculation. Soudan 2 is an iron calorimeter with di erent experimental systematics from the water Cherenkov detectors and with a di erent geometry and detection technique from from the Frejus experiment. A large veto shield placed against the cavern wall allows the identi cation of particles entering the detector from the ...
